Agama, Etika dan Etos Kerja dalam Aktivitas Ekonomi Masyarakat Nelayan Jawa
Abstract
Praktik keagamaan nelayan Jawa yang mayoritas beragama Islam, relatif masih kuat dengan ajaran-ajaran nenek moyang. Ritual sedekah laut, sesaji dan “santet†merupakan implementasi dari ketergantungannya pada kekuatan supranatural. Di lain pihak, nelayan dikenal sebagai kelompok masyarakat yang paling miskin meskipun rata-rata mereka memiliki etos kerja tinggi. Artikel ini mendiskusikan hubungan antara kepercayaan yang dianut nelayan Jawa terhadap dorongan tumbuhnya etos kerja. Hipotesa yang dapat ditarik adalah, meskipun nelayan memiliki etos kerja tinggi tetapi etika kerja yang difahami kurang sesuai dengan ajaran agama. Artikel ini ditulis berdasarkan studi literatur serta akumulasi pemahaman dari berbagai studi primer yang dilakukan terhadap masyarakat nelayan. Studi literatur dilakukan untuk memahami konsep tentang agama dalam menilai etika dan etos kerja. Sumber data primer diperoleh dari serangkaian penelitian yang telah dilakukan terhadap komunitas nelayan pantai utara maupun pantai selatan Jawa. Indikasi longgarnya pemahaman atas nilai agama dan tatanan etika yang dianut inilah kiranya yang membentuk sifat dan karakter nelayan cenderung “permisifâ€, foya-foya dan boros.Downloads
